This is a rare combination—most tall stools do not have backrests. When working at hairdressing-chair height, you sit in a semi-standing position, in which your back gets tired faster than on a low stool. The backrest then provides a point against which you can lean back between one section of hair and the next.
Set-back backrest
The 30 cm gap above the seat leaves room for hip movement. If the backrest started directly above the seat, it would restrict torso rotation when reaching for scissors or a comb. The elevated 30 × 15 cm cushion supports only the middle of the back and stays out of the way of the elbows.
Seat thickness
The rounded edge does not press into the thighs when the feet do not reach the floor. With the stool set at 76 cm, the feet often hang down or touch the floor only with the toes, so the entire weight of the thighs rests on the seat edge. Seven and a half centimeters of padding with a softly finished edge makes a greater difference in this position than on a low stool.
